LUDHIANA: In a good news for city residents, who often face the problem of choking sewerage, the municipal corporation (MC) would start the trial of new sewerage cleaning machines from Thursday to purchase 35 machine units for the entire city. One big and one small machine make up a unit.
Officers of the operation and maintenance (O&M) branch put the proposal for purchase before the high-powered finance and contract committee (F&CC) a few days ago.

Though the F&CC had in principle given its consent, it asked the officers to conduct the trail of the two major companies that are interested and submit the report to it.
Likewise, as the decision regarding the matter is to be taken before February 10, the MC had decided to conduct the trail for two units that have been sent by a company.
Sources in the MC revealed that these machines would be installed at the B and C zones of the civic body on Thursday for conducting the trail. The other interested company would also reportedly deliver its machines in a day or two for the remaining two zones, after which a comparative study of both the machines would be done and final decision would be taken, they added.
When contacted, senior deputy mayor Praveen Bansal said with the induction of these machines, problems related to the sewerage system would soon over. "It is a part of our endeavour to give better facilities to the citizens," he added.
